Career Counseling A Dire Necessity

We often come across students struggling to get into the right course. Their dreams are big, everyone wants to earn lots of money ASAP, but have no idea how to go about it. As a counselor I get lot of queries from students about a career where they won’t have to work hard and will make fast money. I don’t have an answer to it and I don’t think so anyone in this world can answer that.

The possibilities of an individual doing great in his/her field are maximum when he/she is rightly suited for the field and is hardworking at it. Success will automatically follow you. A dialogue in the movie 3 Idiots by Aamir Khan – “Baccha Kabil Bano, Kabil…..Kamyabi toh saali Jhak Maarke peeche bhagegi” (Be capable, success will follow no matter what). One can only be capable when we are in a field that matches our personality, interest, aptitude, etc. My father asserts that it doesn’t matter if you become a gardener but be the best in your field and this will only happen when you are fit for it. You need to have in you for what it takes to be a gardener. Just working hard is not enough, but working hard in the right direction is vital.

Gone are the days when just a graduate degree in any field was considered important. Now is the time of specialization. Specialized courses are available right from the graduation level in the country. But important for the student and their parents is to understand and analyze the potentials of the child.

In today’s times, the exposure students and parents have, there is no dearth of knowledge regarding the career options. As a matter of fact, there are so many options available and so much of information available at a click that the students tend to get all the more confused. Every individual is unique and has different strengths and weaknesses. It is important to tap them in the right way so that they can be channelized in the right career path in order to get a higher job satisfaction at a later stage.

India’s 350 million students – the biggest student population in the world – need at least 1.4 million career counsellors to maintain a globally acceptable student – counselor ratio (As quoted in the IC3 Annual Conference 2018). And how many counselors do we have presently who are well qualified and guiding the students in the right manner?Every student needs career guidance at some point of time and to get it from the right source and a qualified personnel is vital.

A career counselor will help you go through a standardized psychometric assessment to give you career options matching with the World of an Individual i.e. your personality, career values, interest, skills & abilities. We at Axis Career Path follow a standardized psychometric assessment to help the student understand himself/ herself better by suggesting career options based on the assessment results. We not only limit to the career options but also our detailed report provides clear and workable information about the career path and also provide after counselling support about the college requirements of the courses selected.
